A TRIP TO THE RAINFOREST
This is Maria. She’s ten and she lives in Brazil. One day when she is at school and her teacher, Mrs. Fernandez, says: “Tomorrow we’re going on a trip. We’re visiting a rainforest”. Children are very excited. Next morning they went on the trip. Mums and dads wave “Goodbye, have a nice trip.”
Mrs. Fernandez talks about the rainforest during the bus trip. Pablo doesn’t say anything because he doesn’t feel very well. Two hours later, the bus stops. Maria and her friends climb down the steps of the bus. They stop and look at the rainforest. Mrs. Fernandez talks about trees: “We get a lot of things from these trees like rubber, cocoa and vanilla. We can also get fruit, like avocados. Miguel asks “Does this river have fish?” “Yes, and some rivers have piranhas in them, Miguel. Piranhas like to eat meat. So don’t go near the river.” Pablo is under the tree. He’s not feeling well. Maria sees Pablo and asks “What’s the matter Pablo?” “I don’t feel very well” “Oh, now let’s go to tell Mrs. Fernandez” “No, I’m ok”. Mrs. Fernandez talks about the Yanomami. Pablo falls to the ground. “Help, Mrs. Fernandez! Pablo is ill.” The children and Mrs. Fernandez go running to help Pablo. She is very worried. The teacher hears a voice from behind the trees. It is a young Yanomami. The boy says: “I can help the boy get better. Everyone come with me.” The boy takes them to his grandma. She goes to a small plant, picks one leaf and makes tea. Pablo drinks it all and feels better.
